Solitary Cecal Diverticulitis
Abstract
Diverticulitis of the cecum is a rare disease which impose difficult diagnostic and therapeutic
problems.
There are two types of the cecal diverticula; congenital(true) and acquired(false).
The wall of the former consists of all layers of intestine and that of the latter of mucosa and
submucosa of intestine.
Solitary cecal diverticulum is usually congenital.
The symptoms and signs are so simulate acute appendicitis that accurate preoperative diagnosis
is rarely made.
At operation, it is easilly confused with carcinoma because it is frequently accompanied with
regional induration and presents itself as inflammatory mass.
The authors present a typical case of solitary cecal diverculitis and reviewed literatures briefly.
